Ancestral chilote life revolves around food. They produce almost everything they consume and have therefore been able to preserve the traditional cuisine. Native potatoes-there are some 400 varieties, meat and products extracted from the sea are the essential diet of Chiloe. Milcao, chapaleles, marshal, sopaipillas, chochoca, pulmay, curanto casserole with mussels and sea squirts, ribs and meat pies, apple and seafood are some of the dishes enjoyed throughout the year.
